Read GuideThe Waterfront Loop is your best starting point. It's completely flat, only 2 kilometres, and takes about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace. You'll see the whole harbour without any climbing, and there are benches every few hundred metres if you want to rest and take in the views.
It's moderate, not difficult. The path gains elevation gradually — you won't find steep sections or scrambling. Most walkers take 90 minutes, including time to stop and admire the views. If you need a break, there's a nice resting spot halfway up.
Spring and early autumn are ideal — the weather's mild and you won't get the summer crowds. That said, Kinsale's lovely year-round. Winter can be wet, but the routes are manageable if you're prepared. Just check the forecast before you head out.
The Waterfront Loop is largely flat and accessible. The historic town walk has cobbled streets which can be uneven. Compass Hill isn't accessible due to elevation. If you need specific accessibility information, get in touch and we can advise based on your requirements.
The Waterfront Loop and historic town walk both pass cafés and shops. Compass Hill has limited options on the route itself, so bring water and snacks. We've got a detailed guide listing exactly where to stop and what's available at each location.
Just comfortable walking shoes with good grip. Bring water, a light snack, and weather-appropriate clothing. A phone is useful for photos. If you prefer, we can provide detailed maps and route descriptions to carry with you.
